Could it be TRUE??

OKAY...I have completley stole this post from my dear friend Tracey. She said it so great!!

A little ray of sunshine? We had been told that FOI (our agency) should be receiving a new batch of Waiting Children files around the end of January. Today word came out that a couple of American agencies had already received their new lists (of WC files). A woman in one of our Yahoo adoption groups said that when FOI's last batch of WC files arrived in September it was shortly after the Americans had received theirs. I'm hoping that this could mean that the arrival of FOI's new list is pending. This would be great news. Even if I don't find a match with this group it means that several of our fellow FOI families will be one step closer to having their babies. Fingers crossed (and toes too!)

So in a nutshell: I could, maybe, hopefully be seeing Channing's sweet face within a few weeks!!!

December 24th at the lake

At our house on Christmas Eve we have always opened our gifts before bed. Of course I'm NOT a good picture taker and I kindof forgot about the camera. I better not do that in China, or actually it will be Grandpa & Grandma's job to take the pictures!!!

Here is a picture of tree #1. My mom decorated 2 trees this year, so presents were scattered!!
Here is Hunter starting to dive in!!

Is there anymore???

And Channing even got some presents & money!!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was wonderful. We spent it out at the lake and the weather was absolutley beautiful. Hunter wanted to be outside all the time, so we played lots in the snow and did a lot of skidooing. Well I tried to do a slide show with all the pictures but nothing was cooperating with me. So I will post a few today and more tomorrow.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

This will be my last post before Santa comes. I'm heading out to the lake to spend Christmas with my family. We will be doing lots of ski-dooing, playing in the snow, eating & drinking, sitting at the fire, watching movies and whatever else comes along. Its our first Christmas ever at the lake so we are all sooo excited. Many of our neighbours will be out there, so that will be great spending this special holiday with them too.

To all my bloggy friends, my family & friends I just wanted to send a

to all of you!! I could not imagine this journey without the support and friendship from all of you!!!

Of course this has been a DOWN time for me. I was soooo hoping & praying that I would have Channing home by now and it seems it will still be a few more months yet. Last year she was spoiled rotten at Christmas and I know this year will be the same. She already has received some gifts from friends and family and I know it wont be as fun opening them this year when last year I kept picturing her ripping off the paper with her cousin Hunter helping her.

So baby girl, I just hope you are well taken care of and that you are healthy. I will be thinking of you all day long......Merry Christmas my girl. I can't wait until we get to celebrate next year together!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS
By Thrid Day
There's a little girl trembling on a cold December morn
Crying for momma's arms
At an orphanage just outside a little China town
There the forgotten are
But half a world away I hang the stockings by the fire
And dream about the day when I can finally call you mine
It's Christmas time again but you're not home
Your family is here and yet you're somewhere else alone
And so tonight I pray that God will come and hold you in his arms
And tell you from my heart I wish you a Merry Christmas
As I hang the tinsel on the tree and watch the twinkling lights
I'm warmed by the fire's glow
Outside the children tumble in a wonderland of white,
Make angels in the snow
But half a world away you try your best to fight the tears
And hope that heaven's angels come to carry you here
It's Christmas time again but you're not home
Your family is here and yet you're somewhere else alone
And so tonight I pray that God will come and hold you in his arms
And tell you from my heart I wish you a Merry Christmas
Christmas is a time to celebrate the holy child
and we celebrate his perfect gift of love
He came to earth to give his life
and prepare a place for us
so we could have a home with him above
It's Christmas time again and now you're home
Your family is here so you will never be alone
So tonight before you go to sleep, I'll hold you in my arms
And I'll tell you from my heart, and I'll tell you from my heart
I wish you Merry Christmas.

AMAZING!!

World's Tallest Man Saves China Dolphins

BEIJING (AP) — The long arms of the world's tallest man reached in and saved two dolphins by pulling out plastic from their stomachs, state media and an aquarium official said Thursday.

The dolphins got sick after nibbling on plastic from the edge of their pool at an aquarium in Liaoning province. Attempts to use surgical instruments to remove the plastic failed because the dolphins' stomachs contracted in response to the instruments, the China Daily newspaper reported.

Veterinarians then decided to ask for help from Bao Xishun, a 7-foot-9 herdsman from Inner Mongolia with 41.7-inch arms, state media said.

Bao, 54, was confirmed last year by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's tallest living man.

Chen Lujun, the manager of the Royal Jidi Ocean World aquarium, told The Associated Press that the shape of the dolphins' stomachs made it difficult to push an instrument very far in without hurting the animals. People with shorter arms could not reach the plastic, he said.

"When we failed to get the objects out we sought the help of Bao Xishun from Inner Mongolia and he did it successfully yesterday," Chen said. "The two dolphins are in very good condition now."

Photographs showed the jaws of one of the dolphins being held back by towels so Bao could reach inside the animal without being bitten.

"Some very small plastic pieces are still left in the dolphins' stomachs," Zhu Xiaoling, a local doctor, told Xinhua. "However the dolphins will be able to digest these and are expected to recover soon."

Chinese Lesson #1

I stumbled across this Chinese Lesson #1 on Sara's blog. Her DTC group is going to be doing Chinese Lesson's weekly. Hopefully I will be able to learn some basic Chinese before I head over to get Channing.

Here is lesson #1
Hello (simple, basic greeting): "Ni hau"
Pronounced: "Knee How"
"Ni" (knee) - said just like that body part, it means 'you
'"hau" ("how") - simple, eh?, Hau means "good", so the literal
translation of "ni hau" is "you good"
Add the word "ma" (pronounced just like it is spelled) to turn the
phrase into "How are you?" ("Ni Hau ma?")
You can respond by saying: "hau" or if you are really good "hen hau"
(pronounce the "hen" like the 'hon' in honey)

Mom/Mother: "ma ma"

So when they hand your sweet little one to you, you can say to him
or her: "I am your mother" = "Wo shi nide ma ma"
Pronounced "whoa sure knee duh ma ma" :
"wo" (whoa) -just like what you say to stop a horse, it means "I"
"shi" (sure)- say it like the first part of the name Shirley but
don't put a strong "r" on the end
"ni" (knee) - just like that part of your leg, it means "you"
"de" (duh) - its a very short 'duh', it turns something into a
possessive, make 'you' into 'your'("ma ma" (mama) - just the same as in English.)

I do think I will need this book!!!!

My mom knows this Chinese lady from one of the Chinese restaurants here and she has offered to teach me some Chinese. So maybe after the holidays and once I have a better idea of when I will be going to China I can start to learn some. I cant learn it too early, becuase knowing me I will forget everything by time I get to China. I will have to convince Cory and Jeff to come with me!!!!

Christmas Ornaments by JiinkinKids!

This year I "thought" that my Channing would be home by now. But she won't be and I'm just not in the mood for all the decorating. I have however stumbled across a blog that put a SPARKLE in my eye, and helped me get in the Christmas spirit!! Stephanie who is another adopting Mama has a very creative side to her. She does AMAZING adoption art and has just created some Christmas ornaments for the tree. She will also customize any of the ornaments for you such as names and dates!!
Please stop by her blog/website and have a look. I know she is busy with orders, but she would be happy with more. I'm NOT in any rush to order mine, so I will be placing my order in the next few weeks. I have decided I will order these two and have Channing's name on the top one so it will read "Waiting for you Channing....2006" and I also like the one above..."Forever Family 2007". Check out her Jiinkin Store for many other great China Adoption stuff!!!!

Rumours R True!!

Important Notice Concerning Changed in CCAA Policies and Practices
On December 8, the CCAA called a meeting in Beijing of agencies from around the world. The purpose of the meeting was to advise the agencies of new CCAA policies and administrative practices, and to offer a forum for discussion.
As of printing this notice, we have not received printed instructions from CCAA so there are a number of ambiguities and some details are missing . The following is our understandings from the oral presentation. Most of the commentary below applies to the regular program.

Observing Hague Convention Requirements
The CCAA will implement the full requirements of the Hague Convention which will require that the provincial governments issue a letter to CCAA indicating the government acceptance of a proposed child (in addition to the family’s acceptance). This may impact the length of time between receiving a child proposal to departing on the China adoption trip.
Restrictions on Single Applicants
CCAA will not accept applications from single applicants from May 1, 2007. Agencies are still restricted to submitting applications on behalf of singles up to a total of 8% of their total submissions between January 1 and April 30.
Age Restrictions
Married Applicants must now be both no older than 50 – previously one of the applicants was required to be younger than 55. This new policy will be applied as of May 1, 2007.
Marriage Requirements
A couple applying must have been married at least two years at the time the dossier is submitted.
If one of a couple has had a previous marriage, the couple must have been married at least five years at the time the dossier is submitted. This policy will be applied as of May 1, 2007.
Medical Requirements
CCAA will not accept applicants with serious medical issues. Overweight (BMI over 40), cancer, treatment for depression and other mental illnesses were mentioned as examples. These conditions are effective now.
Criminal Check
The CCAA reiterated that an applicant must have a clear criminal record.
Children in the Home
The CCAA reiterated the restriction that there can be no more than 4 children currently living in the home and added that the youngest child must be at least one year old at the time the dossier is submitted to China. This policy will be applied as of May 1, 2007.
Switching Between Programs
Applicants with dossiers in China cannot switch to the Waiting Child program or have their dossier put into the Expedited (applicants that can demonstrate Chinese heritage) stream.
Post Adoption Reports
CCAA will dictate a compulsory format for the 6 and 12 month Post Adoption Reports.
Fee Change
The CCAA dossier assessment fee will be increased from US$410 to US$620. The new fee applies to documents submitted as of January 1, 2007. For the Waiting Child program, the assessment fee US$390.

Discussion on Wait Times
The CCAA discussed the current wait times. It was explained that applications to adopt have been received at rates which exceed the rate at which child are becoming available. Consequently there is a backlog of applicant dossiers waiting to be matched. The CCAA expects wait times which are now 15 to 16 months to lengthen considerably in the medium term – wait-times in the future may be between one and three years.

This notice was posted on my Agency's website! It didnt talk about the Waiting Child Prorgam, but I do think CCAA has new administration changes, so the news should come soon!!! Yesterday was a BAD day with all the talk about the rumours, and families switching from the NSN to SN program (which could bump all of us who have been waiting down the list). I'm not sure if this is what happens, but I will try and get the answers soon.
So for now....I will have Patience!! Thanks Tracey and Amy for your ~~HUGS~~ and emails yesterday!!

Holiday Train

Yesterday my family & I got to go for a ride on the CPR Holiday Train. The train was decorated with more than 100,000 lights and came complete with performances from Wide Mouth Mason, Lisa Brokop & Santa.
Every December the train travels across Canada and parts of the US to help out local food banks.

This is where we rode!!

My brother works for CPR so that is how we got the tickets. It is such a beautiful site to see the train all lit up with the lights. We had to drive 2 hours to meet the train. Once on the train our ride was 1 hour and 15 minutes long (Broadview to Indian Head). It was my first ride ever on a train and it was awesome. My nephew Hunter was sooo excited to ride "James", he pretty much was vibrating with excitment the whole way.

Here is Hunter eating his cookies and playing with his trains.

Hunter WILL NOT look at the camera for a picture....he is at that stage!!!

A view inside the train!! The served us hot chocolate with whipcream, coffee and cookies!!!

Below is the train when it was in the Moose Jaw yard lastnight. It doesnt show the actual beauty of all the lights, my camera is stuck on some terrible settings...sorry!!

A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon......

4 Months!!

Today is my 4 month LIDiversary!!! I cannot believe how fast these past 4 months have actually gone. We are now coming into the holidays and once New Years is over I will almost be at my 5 month LIDiversary!!!
I know a lot of you want to know how things are going or if I have heard anything lately....well I havent!!! All I can say is that my agency is still hoping to have a new batch of WC files in January, so I'm hoping/guessing that I will be matched with Channing then....ohhh how I cannot wait for that day to come!!!
Well this past few weeks has been NASTY with RUMOURS!!! If you dont want to hear any of the rumours dont read any further!!!
The CCAA in China had its big year end meeting 2 days ago. This is the meeting where they talk about the adoption process and make new rules. I havent heard anything from my agency regarding these new rules, so I wont get excited and until then I will still consider them as RUMOURS!!

This is from the "Rumour Queen" blog:
They state that the number of dossiers is 2 times the number of children the CCAA has to place. The wait time from LID to referral will not shorten at this time and it may get longer. They note that the CCAA does not define what they mean by longer. I note that they don’t say the number of dossiers is twice the number of children, but twice the number of children the CCAA has to place - I believe we are still talking about paper ready children and not total children.
They state that the following requirements will be in place for all dossiers accepted after May 1, 2007. Read that again - for all dossiers accepted after that date. If your dossier is in by that date then presumably you are okay under the current rules.

The new rules are stated to be:
Married couples only. No singles. Agencies may continue to submit singles dossiers within their 8% constraints until May 1, 2007 and then the CCAA will not accept any more single dossiers.
Married couples must be married over 2 years if there are no previous marriages. If there are previous marriages then the present marriage must be over 5 years. However, no more than two previous marriages will be allowed (it is unclear if this is two per person or two per couple)
Each parent must be 30 to 50 years old. No parent can be outside of this range. Upper limit can be 55 for a family in the waiting child program (and that “can be” kind of looks like it’s going to be on a case by case basis, not an absolute, but it’s hard to tell).

The CCAA wants healthy parents - no infectious disease, no mental disease (including depression or anxiety), no blindness, and no serious disease or disability. There is a note about waiting to see what the CCAA’s formal notice says, which sounds to me like they hope there will be more information in the formal notice about these things. There is another note that cancer was not specifically mentioned.

Both parents must have a BMI under 40.

At least one parent must have a stable job. Income requirement is $10,000 per family member including the child to be adopted.

Family’s net assets must be over $80,000

Each parent must have a high school education or higher.

No more than five children in the home including the child to be adopted. The youngest child in the home must be over 1 year old. Exceptions will be considered for the waiting child program.
No criminal record. There is a note about the CCAA not elaborating so we will again have to wait to see what the formal notice says.

The CCAA fees are also changing - going from $410 to $620.

There are also some notes about the Waiting Children’s Program. It sounds like there will be a category between the current NSN and SN categories for children with low birth wait and developmental delays. Fees will be the same as for the NSN program but the wait time will be closer to the SN program.

Now this is an "update" from one of the larger Canadian Adoption Agency (not FOI):
It is year-end at the CCAA, traditionally a time for change. There was a meeting held in China yesterday (their Friday) with agency representatives. It was an all day meeting covering many topics. Of primary concern to adoptive families is that the CCAA did advise it would be far more stringent on file selection. Agencies are being advised we need to be strict on family’s health and finances in particular. Unfortunately I have no specifics to outline for you at this time. As the changes are to take effect January 2007, some guidelines will be spelled out soon I expect.

As part of the greater stringency it appears that it will be increasingly difficult, if not impossible, for singles to be accepted after May 2007. Until that time we can send only 8% of our projected total files for those five months, a limited number. Singles whose home studies are not in process already, or organized for early 2007, might best look to other programs.

There will be about a $100US increase in the CCAA fees for those files going after January 2007.

These changes are being instituted as there are more family files in the CCAA than children’s files. This situation is a result of a decline in the number of abandoned babies, a steep increase in the number of domestic adoptions, financial incentives in some provinces such as Anhui for families to parent a single girl, and the continued fallout from the Hunan trafficking scandal this time last year.

I know this news will not be well received by some. After years of China providing a wonderful and secure means for families to build and grow, that avenue will be increasingly closed to more and more families. China’s program will, I feel, over time begin to resemble South Korea’s and Thailand’s which are very limited in range of acceptance of families, and in the number of children needing families.

While I appreciate this news is distressing for families here, for children who may now have the chance to grow up in a family in their birth country, this news is good.

SO some may wonder what this means for me. None of these new rules will affect my adoption. When CCAA implements new rules they will "GRANDFATHER" all dossiers that are already logged-in....(thank heavens). BUT if these new rules are true, it will stop any further chance of me adopting from China again as a single parent. I was so hoping to be able to adopt another child from China if I was still single (in a few years), but I do also know that there are other countries that I can look at if need be. We will worry about that when the time comes....but for now I'm just counting my LUCKY STARS that I followed my heart when I did!!!

Update on the MESS

So the taping, mudding, electrical, and painting is done and the new cupboards have arrived!!! But where you see them now is where they will be until Sunday. The plan was they would be installed today, but I just found out that it wont happen for a few more days!! Hopefully they can all be done in one day, but I'm not holding my breath!! I imagine my kitchen wont be "working" until at least Wednesday. Now with the delay in the cupboards I have to coordinate everything else. The flooring was to go in early nextweek, so... that wont happen. The stove, dishwasher, and microwave was going to be delivered today, so...that wont happen, the window/blind lady was coming on tuesday, so...may or may not happen.....grrrrr.....when one thing gets delayed, it screws everyone up!!

I have had a few emails/comments regarding the colors. The colors have stayed the same as what I painted the walls when I moved in. I absolutley LOVE my colors!! The "RED" on wall is AMAZING in real life, and for the record I'm one of those people who hates the color RED.

And for Miss. Saige....she hates the MESS as much as I do. My house is cluttered, dusty, dirty and I'm ready to SNAP. I think I will move to the lake for the weekend!!

Living in a MESS!!

Back in March of this year I moved into my new house. I bought the house from an elderly couple who had lived here for 50 years. So you could imagine what was needed....YES, the house needed a total makeover, but in order to do what was needed, I needed to do it in phases. Phase 1 was the URGENT stuff which ended up being 80% of the total renovations. Phase 2 was the exterior which was new windows, P2000 Insulation, siding, facia & sofits....that was completed in October.
NOW....Phase 3!!! The kitchen....when I moved in I couldnt afford to re-do the kitchen. I figured with the expenses of the adoption I could try and make it work until next spring so I just re-painted the kitchen and cupboards.
Here is a picture of the kitchen as soon I took possession (dont you like the lime green paint??).

Now here is the kitchen after I painted (sorry I didnt take a good picture, but you can see part of a cupboard paitned).

Well after living in the house for nearly 8 months I decided it was TIME. The kitchen was a total EYE SORE and a usless. The layout was terrible and I had no room to do anything. Soooo.....here is the kitchen today.

And here is poor Channing's room. Thank god I had that room to use as storage. It is completly full and also I had to store stuff in my room and the living room. You sure dont know how much junk you have in your cupboards until you have to clear them out!!!

So.....this is my life this week. Stay tuned for the FINISHED project!!!
